I have a 9mm oly upper. I occasionally have problems where the ejected shell get's caught by the bolt and ends up jammed 1/2 way out of the receiver. I was trying to think it through... If my buffer spring was weak the bolt would start to come back too soon. This could explain the black burn marks on my shells. Then, with the bolt moving back quickly, it would cycle too fast and crush the ejecting shell before it got completely out of the upper.

So I figured I would try a new buffer spring...

Does that make sense to anyone?

I used a standard carbine spring and buffer
in both of my Oly's, with virtually zero malfunctions
since I built my first one about 9 or 10 years ago.

I did have similar ejection problems with a 5.56
which was as a result of a bad extractor spring.

Black casings are normal with a blowback pistol-cal AR.

Either the ejector in the upper needs to be adjusted/replaced or

You should inspect the extractor and extractor spring on the bolt.
