Ok,
So I don't know how the hell this happened, but.....I want to use a rifle extension, so I went to my spare parts stash and found one....still mounted in the A2 stock (I have NO idea how that one happened). So, how the hell do I separate the two now because if I try to unscrew the buttplate screw, the whole damn extension just spins with it. Obviously, if I hold it in place with a wrench, the threads will get messed up.
Thoughts? |

Damn, how'd you get it torqued down that tight? I've got my extension stored it the stock as well, but I just put my finger on the screw and the extension spins off freely.
Drip some oil into the screw recess so it flows around the threads and let it sit a while. Then maybe see if you can get a small c-clamp in the tube. End of the clamp into the tube, screw part of the clamp against the stock (pad both jaws, don't tighten so hard that you bend or break something.) Just a suggestion off the top of my head. Proceed at your own risk. |
| Maybe put it in a receiver and spin it all the way in so the buffer retention pin holds it from spinning and try it that way? Strap wrench will probably do better though. Grab some pb blaster and see if it will break it free... Maybe even put some heat on it with a heat gun or a hair dryer to suck that into the threads. Good luck with it dude. |
| Take a piece of wood and whittle it until its a tight jam fit inside the receiver extension. Then clamp the end of the wood in a vise and start working on the screw holding the buttstock. As mentioned above, a little bit of Kroil or WD40 on the screw threads will help. Also, tapping on the screwdriver with a hammer to help break the screw loose. If all else fails, you my have to drill out the screw and replace it. Both parts, the extension and the GI buttstock are cheap to replace if both have to be scrapped. - CW |
