| I've got an AR that came to me with a SIR forend installed. I'm trying to remove it, but am having problems. I got the bottom half off, un-bolted the three bolts that clamps onto the flat top, and loosened the 4 screws that connect the upper half of the rail to the barrel nut yoke. BUT...I can't get the 4 screws to come out all the way to let me finish the job. Is there a secret, or am I just totally over looking something simple? |

I think the tolerences are pretty tight. Once you get the 4 screws of the yoke unscrewed util they won't unscrew anymore then try wiggling or leveraging that yoke off, it should slide out with a little force. Oh by the way the yoke clips into the delta ring the same way the plastic handgaurds do so you have to pull back on the delta ring to remove it (assuming you have the C version). |

If it's an older #45, the yoke screws are only half threaded. Try pulling them outward while unscrewing so they engage the threads in the holes in the SIR body....then can be removed completely. Maybe use another smaller screwdriver to apply outward pressure or a set of needle nose pliars to pull out and unscrew. The slimline mods use shorter screws that are fully threaded and should come right out. |

As stated by EVERYBODY, all 4 screws should come off. It would appear that there is some sort of loose thread or wear on the screws which is causing it to just turn but not move completely out of the "hole". Since you were able to loosen the screws on the clamp, is it possible to jamb a small screw driver in between the clamp and the crew head? What I am trying to suggest is by "forcing" the screw outward AND turning the head - you may be able to have the screw catch on to the thread and work its way out. Good luck! [ETA: Ooops! Too slow! VTDefender beat me to it! |
That is incorrect. On the #45's the Screws that secure the barrel nut yoke to the Upper Aluminum SIR body are only half threaded. On the SLimline versions like the #50 Etc, they are fully threaded. When the half of the screw that is threaded clears the threads in the yoke, it is captivated and held to the upper SIR body by the threads being too wide to slip through the holes. They must be pulled outwards and again unscrewed through the threaded holes in the SIR body before being completely removed. On the slimline versions. The holes in the upper SIR body are not threaded and once the screws are unscrewed from the yoke, they slip through and out. Believe me. I've owned just about every type of SIR out there and still have a #45 in the closet thats not attached to anything right now. Of course....we don't know what type of SIR he has and the above ONLY applies if it's a #45
