I recently was given a deal on a DPMS Panther Bull 24, that I could not pass up. I am working on putting it together for mid range target shooting and can not get the free float tube off. I don't want to ruin it, the cost of gun wasn't expensive, it is my first run at a complete overhaul of an ar and want to do it right. Any ideas on how to get the tube off would help thank you.

you'll need a STRAP WRENCH and possibly some heat.. there is a FINE line on the TUBE about 3/4"-1" from the NORMAL barrel nut area..

you will see the barrel nut is also integral to the tube..

remove the gas block and tube before you start also.. to avoid twisting it.. you may need really small allen keys.. the screws are UNDER the gas block usually.. again you may/may not need some heat.. (DPMS likes locktite)

remove the FF tube part 2nd....

then remove the BARREL nut portion 3rd.. (if your not re-using THAT barrel nut.. channel locks may get it off for you... (just sayin)..

hopefully whatever FF or setup you get comes with a new barrel nut.. they cost $5-10 from Midway or Brownells..

others will be along shortly I am sure..
