I've managed to confused myself and I'll be the first to admit that doesn't always take much. I have a Colt Sporter Match HBar ser 05**** . It is marked Cal. .223 on the lower receiver. I purchased several boxes of S&B ammo for it recently. The boxes are green and yellow and marked. FMJ/M193 3,6g 55grs .223 REM 5,56x45 So which is it? I've read that I shouldn't shoot 5.56 mil spec in a .223 Rem chambered rifle. I've also read that it is ok with the 55gr and smaller bullets. Some places say that M193 is mil spec. The box appears to say it is both. I feel like I've read just enough to not know a thing. Can someone help this confused varmit out? |

Check your barrel. The chamber and twist rate should be stamped on it. Follow up - I checked S&B's website, and they list it as .223. I'd have to measure a round to compare with other .223, but I don't have a set of calipers here. Hard to say, but I think its going to match .223 spec, but I can't be sure. |
No problem. My Bushy has both .223 and 5.56 on the receiver, but 5.56 on the barrel. I still think that the S&B does fall under .223, but without measuring, its hard to tell. It appears to have an OAL the same as my Amercian Eagle stuff, but my eyes ain't what they used to be to tell the difference of 20 thousandths

Not all 5.56mm barrels are equal. |
I think if it says "C MP" it would indicate a Colt barrel that was MP tested, unless I am mistaken on my letter codes. (a possibility to be sure) |
