I've build about a dozen AR15 variants but I apparently am a nemb when it comes to the LR308 pattern and I'm confused with a few things.

Aero Precision M5 receiver set, Rainier 16" mid-length barrel, SLR adjustable gas block

So, I want a collapsible stock and I understand that a mil-spec AR15 buffer tube is fine.
Now how about the buffer and spring? Aero Precision offers a kit for a reasonable price that comes with the tube, .308 carbine buffer and spring.
Is this the right setup? Will the adjustable gas block allow me to properly tune it with a standard 308 carbine buffer and spring?
How about an 'orange' Sprinco buffer spring?

Basically, do I need to worry about buffer weight and spring...or just let the gas block help me figure out where its sweet spot is?

Thanks!

I went with a VLTOR A5 receiver extension with an Armalite Carbine spring and a standard AR15 H3 buffer. I'm running the 18" Rainier Match barrel (also mid-length gas)

With my SLR adjustable gas block, I was able to cut down the gas a ton (4 clicks from off, but I shoot 100% suppressed. One more click up and it it a tad overgassed with the silencer, but would be 100% all other times.) and have had 100% function (With a wide variety of ammo), light recoil and no problems at all.

You have chosen wisely with the SLR, it'll solve a lot of potential over gassing problems easily and let you use pretty much whatever buffer system you want. I went with the A5 because of the wide variety of standard AR15 buffers. With the shorter RE's needing the super short AR10 carbine buffers and fewer options, I felt that the A5 would give me more potential for needed tuning and options. The gas block will help a ton.

I went with an LMT Sopmod and a slash 5.5 oz carbine buffer and spring.  My adj. gas block is a JP Ent. You can tune it to deposit brass in a neat pile 12" to your right.

It's also nice that you can mitigate the recoil impulse to that of a .223.

This +100. Armalite buffer system is really the best design. Great balance, nice recoil, easy to control. Adding the adjustable gas block makes it that much better. But, the adjustable block really shines best shooting suppressed, or taming the recoil for 3 gun or other quick shooting competitions.

Go Armalite, will be the best parts to include on any full size 308.

OP you are on the right path. SLR adj block is awesome. As others stated. Don't mess with the sprinco spring yet. The gas block will tune it down perfect.

$115 for Slash's 5.5oz buffer and spring? You gotta be shittin' me? No thanks.

Is the recoil that bad? Will the SLR gas block be enough to tune or do I really need to pony up the dough for this heavy buffer setup?

Whatever the case, I want to run a Magpul carbine stock so that means a standard carbine buffer tube.

That's why I went with the A5 and standard AR15 carbine buffers. Lots more options and much cheaper.
You only need the SLR. You will not need the super heavy specialized buffers. The Magpul stocks work perfectly fine on the A5 RE's.
You don't need to or want to buy the A5 Kit.
Just buy the Vltor A5 RE (for an AR-15), an Armalite AR-10 carbine spring and a standard AR15 H3 buffer and whatever mil-spec Magpul stock you want.

Vltor A5: https://dsgarms.com/vlv2-1165-c1
Armalite AR-10 spirng: https://dsgarms.com/armea1095
H3 Buffer: https://dsgarms.com/bs-11ah3
Castle nut: https://dsgarms.com/dsghcarln
Whatever end plate you want: https://dsgarms.com/armec0054
Whatever stock you want (Mil-Spec): https://dsgarms.com/mag310

Those are the parts I used for my 308 build with the SLR gas block and it's all worked perfectly for me.

Is there a big difference in accuracy from a 16" to a 20" barrel at 200 to 300 yards and what would you suggest on types and manufacturers of barrels

A bit off topic, but okay....i'll bite.

No big difference in accuracy from a 16" to 20" barrel at that distance, especially in .308 Win. Remember that barrel length will not directly effect accuracy. It's velocity and how the elements effect bullet flight as distance increases. I don't plan on shooting over 400 yards with this build, so I'm going with the compactness of the 16" barrel and suppressor combo.

Plenty of good barrels out there. If you are just looking for a battle rifle to sling lead, then it really doesn't matter. I would consider Rainier, Mega, and Aero Precision in that order. If you are trying to squeeze out accuracy, look at the Rainier Match or Ultramatch sticks.

I just bought the 18" Faxon Firearms SS black Heavy Fluted barrel. This thing is a work of art. Customer service is great as well. Their warrenty is great. Haven't installed yet but it looks to be amazing quality.

Might want to check em out. So far Very happy
