I bought a used, but great condition incandescent 9P on Amazon. It looked as though the drop in has been switched out and it wouldn't work. I switched the drop in out with my stock 6P drop in and it blew that one as well. Sooooo, I had a M951 stock drop in laying around, so I thought I would give that a shot, blew that one as well. I have an LED drop in on the way, but I don't want to fry it so I am asking for some help. Am I doing something wrong here. I am using Surfire batteries in all my lights. I'm at a loss here. Thanks for any input.

The stock incandescent 6P and M951 dropins can only handle up to 6v (i.e. 2 CR123a cell). If you put those 6v dropins in to your 9P they will all flash because 9P uses 3 CR123a cells i.e. 9v.

This is pretty much it, the old surefire incandescent you would need are a P90 or P91 (not the P60) I don't think the the surefire LED will work either. As for drop ins, everyone seems to say go for Malkoff, they make a 9v one which is very bright 400+ lumens.

IIRC, the P60L can take 6-9v.

This is correct.  However the OP didn't specify which LED he ordered.

dougez1, what LED did you order?  If from ebay, do you have the item number or a link so we can check it out for voltage specs?

I looked at the one I ordered, it says it 3-18V Its just a cheap one, so Im guessing it will work. I am for sure going to upgrade to a Malkoff later. I didn't even think to check into the voltage. Stupid mistake on my part. You guys have answered my problem. I am truly a flashlight newbie. Thanks again.

The Surefire KX4 led heads will work fine in both 6P and 9Ps. Also Malkoffs work great in both 2 and 3 cell models.
