Okay I got a ededicated Hahn block and have had a beast of a time installing it.  I am stuck half way in and and out of ideas.  I am afraid I am going to f up my lower.  Any ideas??

This may sound stupid, but did you take the bolt hold open out of the lower first? Also....keep pushing the mag catch button in while you slide it in.

I know...simple things, but you never know.....

Thanks.  Tried that.  In fact I took the mag release out to make it easier....

If you took the bolt release out, it should slide in like butter.

Perhaps your lower is out of spec.

Have you used the lower before?  Does it readily accept 5.56 mags in the magwell without problem?

I bought the Hahn top drop for my OA K9 and i also had to do some tweaking to get mine to fit.  im not sure what model you have, but on mine i was albe to find where it was binding and had to machine off a couple thou.  On mine, it was where Hahn puts thier p/n.  dont know if it will be the same for you tho.

What brand of receiver do you have?

You never answered the question.

Did you remove the bolt catch?(not the mag catch)  The dedicated Haun fits under the bolt catch so it will NEVER go in unless you remove it.  I have a Haun dedicated in a RRA receiver an it fit like a glove.

I did take the bolt catch and mag release off the lower.  The magwell is clear of any parts that would hang it up.  I was using a Superior Arms lower.  The magwell seams to be out of speck.  I was a bit over zealous and tried to make the block fit but no dice.

I know I should have put my dremil tool to work but I could not find the correct bit.  If I took a little off of the inside of the magwell I would have been okay but I didn't

So now I have a block stuck half way in.  Not sure what to do but I am leaning towards driving the block out with a big hammer.

Man, something must really be out if it's stuck like that.  How did a normal 5.56 mag fit?  Was it extreamly tight or anything?  You are installing from the top right?  Not like a mag but from the top?  I know, seems like a dumb question but stranger things.........

The AR mag was tight front to back but I did not have to force it in.  Yeah I am installing from the top.  Geeze I feel like an idiot.

Put the lower between your legs and rubber-mallet a wooden block from the bottom of the magwell.  Get that puppy out and see where it is rubbing the wrong way.  You will most likely see some marks inside the magwell and on the mag block.

I bet some sandpaper alone could cure the problem.  It doesn't take much to get a solid piece of metal stuck in a magwell.

(When dealing with lowers, I rarely like to work on them "secured" in a vice of any kind.  See if you can tap that thing out... plenty of force will be exerted on the magblock and your legs will absorb force that could be detrimental to the lower.  Make sure you have something to catch that magblock when it comes loose!  A $200 part crashing to the floor is not music to your ears.)

Don't feel too bad....many, many receivers are not properly broach cut....and unless you work with AR-15s on a very regular basis it is hard to know the difference.  Hahn Precision has a drawing on their website of what a magwell SHOULD look like.

Since your lower is the issue....the best solution is to take a flat file and carefully work the lower into shape.  If you are not confident doing this....a gunsmith can easily do it.  It is best to work the lower rather than the adapter.....doing this will help bring it closer to spec and make 223 magazines fit better also.

Thanks guys.  I am going to give this another go tomorrow.  I will let you know how it turns out.

Update**  I got that damn block out.  Dead blow hammer and a wood block did the trick.  My lower is really out of speck.  I fitted the block on another one of my ARs and it dropped in without a problem.  Thanks for all of the information.  I am going to get another lower and start over.  My block may still work.

Get a RRA 9mm marked lower.  Since you are using a dedicated block, you might as well.

If you didn't file of the block it should still work fine.
