I was out today hoping to pick up a 6920. Found one in a local shop for $1400.  Too steep for me right now though.

I saw a forge mark on the carry handle I hadn't seen before.  It was a simple raised square.  I came here to check it out and couldn't find the page.

I know someone here has seen it and knows the forge.

Not Colt. Colts have a C on carry handle near the sight.

Negative.  Not on the removable carry handle.  None of my four Colt detachable carry handles has any markings that attest to their "Coltness."

Not sure exactly whose forge the square is, but it's fairly common on Colt removable carry handles.

Could be DPMS if the sight housing is a light gray.
( I have one on a MEGA build I just finished. M-4 clone)

DMPS is a manufacturer not a forge.

Brass Aluminum Forging Enterprises is who did the raw forging. They use the square forgemark.

And their forgings, like everyone elses, are used by a variety of makers.  Just because you've got a DPMS piece with that square doesn't have a thing to do with Colt also using them.

I have an Olympic .45 flat-top upper with that mark on the left side just below the rail.

Does the ARFCOMunity have an opinion of Brass Aluminum Forging Enterprises?

My 6920's carry handle had no markings at all that I can recall. Does not matter since I sold it and put a ACOG and Matech in its place.

AR companies buy raw forgings, and then do the final machining themselves. At least companies that dont just assemble AR's but actuall make them. There are a few forging companies that do AR stuff. Places like Colt will do the final machining. Just because a company like Oly buys/uses the same forgings as Colt doesnt mean they become near the same animal.

Cardinal and Alcoa are a couple more forgers.

My other Oly .45 flat-top upper has a forge mark on the right side that looks like an A (or maybe a crooked H with a solid little triangle on top).  I that Alcoa?  Any idea what it might be?
