Just purchased a BCM 16" middy upper to go on my Cavarms MKII.  I don't have a ton of cash left over, but I have enough for a high quality BUIS, and possibly a one piece mount for my Mueller 2-7x32.

The ocular bell of the Mueller is a little large, @ 1.75".  Eye relief is listed as being 3.25".  Scope can be seen HERE .  I don't expect this to be a hard use optic, but it's what I have laying around.

I am thinking of picking up the newer style Rock River Arms high rise mount as seen HERE.

Will this setup allow the use of a quality flip BUIS like the Troy?

The Troy is pretty low, and fits under many scope/mount combos.

Here's how to figure it out.

Take the ocular diameter and divide it by 2.

Add that to the iron sight height to find the minimum mount centerline you need to clear the iron sight, or subtract it from the mount centerline to find the tallest BUIS that will fit.

I don't know the height of the new RRA mount, but it looks tall, as was the old model.  It gives more forward offset than the old one, though the rings are very wide, which can limit the amount you can adjust the scope back and forth.

Using the 1.7" height of the old mount and rounding numbers:

1.75"/2 = 0.86"
Troy BUIS height = 0.46" folded
Old RRA mount = 1.7"

0.86 + 0.46 = 1.32" - any scope mount over 1.32" centerline will work with the Mueller and Troy

1.7 - 0.86 = .84" - any BUIS under 0.84" will work with the Mueller in the old style RRA mount

Here are some popular BUIS heights:

ARMS 40 - 0.950" folded (mine is 1.00" even)
YHM-9680 - 0.840" folded (mine is 0.850")
Matech - 0.75" folded
MI ERS - 0.750" folded
GG&G MAD - 0.625" folded
ARMS 40L - 0.610" folded
Troy - 0.460" folded
MI MCTAR-SPLP - .4375" folded
KAC 300m - 0.315" folded

Thank you.  That is one great reply with tons of info!

Any idea if that scope and mount would work out okay eye relief wise?
