I am wondering if i can put the style muzzle brake like on a 50 cal on my heavy barrel ar15?? Something with set screws since there is no threads

I can speak from experience the JP brake is awesome I have shot one on a .308 and loved it. When I get a .308 bolt gut I will but a JP brake for it.

The JP brake in question is fantastic, but it's...massive. Google-fu and see if it's what you want. I ran one of the JP Cooley brakes for a long time, and they're great too (but don't give you the look of the .50)

Personally, I would NOT mount a muzzle brake with setscrews. A lot of force there relying on a little clamp up

Agreed. You can send your upper to JP, and he will thread the barrel and install the break.

That's what I did with my Remington 700 in 300RUM.

My AR has been with set-screw brake since 1997. No issues. Get 'em tight enough to get a bite and use red locktite.

Used one on a Remington 700VS as well.

Not saying it's the best way, but it works fine.
