I need a new stripped upper, I just jacked mine up trying to get the barrel nut off.  It is off of an Armalite factory rifle.  Who makes uppers for Armalite or do they make their own?  Is there a big difference between different brands of uppers?   Who has the best prices on them?

I think Armalite mills & finishes their own but I'm not sure. Anyway, every upper I've ever seen was very much the same other than different forge marks, M4 ramped or standard ramps & finish. CMT's seem to be quite popular & plentiful for around $100 complete. Check BCM, PKF & Denny's for the best prices on those. Just make sure you buy the correct upper for your barrel extension.

Excuse my newbiness, but how will I know it is the correct upper?  How do you measure the barrel extension?

I think he was saying that you need to match the barrel extension that you now have to the new upper if your extension has M4 feed ramps cuts then make sure the upper has them as well , but if not get the one without the cuts to make them match.

Hope this helps,

OK, that makes sense.

It cracked from the front of the ejection port straight down.  Just behind where the Pin for the dust cover goes through.  If I were to put some epoxy in the crack and line it back up, would it be safe to use on my .22Lr upper?

A lot of the epoxies out now days are stronger than the aluminum that is used in these uppers anyway.  This area between the dust cover lugs/mounting holes, is the weakest part of the whole unit.  It should end up being stronger than it was to begin with.  It's not like I'm going to put Bondo on it.  Does anyone see a real problem with this?
