Would like your input on which scope I should chose for 16" carbine. (New to the AR platform)
Vortex Diamondback HP standard reticle 2-8 @ $170 -or- Redfield Revolution standard reticle 2-7 @ $139? Both new. Uses would be plinking with some coyote hunting out to 250 yards, and the occasional use for deer in some spots that my shots are limited to 75-100 yards or less. Ammo for hunting application would be Federal Fusion MSR (50 yard zero),functions and groups decent so far with irons.Seeing how my shots will be within 250 not really sure I need any type of BDC reticle. Also your suggestion for a mount for above scope. I was looking at Aero Precision, but not sure which one (offset) to chose. Would standard scope rings even be an option? Thanks, Andrew |

Out of the two, I vote Vortex. However, unless you working on load development you really don't need an 8x scope for shooting under 250yds. I would think a 1-4x or even a red dot would serve you better at those distances, but it's your cheddar.
As far as mounts go, Aero makes good stuff. I wouldn't do standard rings on an AR, I would look for a good QD mount with a rep for return to zero. Other options to check out would be Larue (my personal favorite), ADM, or Bobro. |
