Just another noobie question.
I am still looking for rails for this barrel (16" Mossberg Carbine) but I do not know what length to get. Is it just a matter of preference or do I need a specific length? Any recommendations? Free-Float? non-free-float? |

Is it just a matter of preference or do I need a specific length? Any recommendations? Free-Float? non-free-float? Does your barrel have a front sight already installed? That will determine what I would recommend. Main thing is what you like. Have the front "rails" an inch or 2 shorter than the end of barrel. I personally like the Troy/ VTAC system for looks and ease of installation. You can add whatever rails to suit your needs without unnecessary weight. Take a look ( Google) and see what you think Oh and thanks for the service to your country and all of us. |

Rolando,
I just built two carbines using the same Mossberg barrel you have. I built the first one using a free floated hand guard from Midwest Industries. Here is a photo of that rifle... https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/72652_10202130625093636_1286214414_n.jpg I used a 12" length handguard, and a low profile pinch screw gas block and black nitride carbine gas tube from Yankee Hill Machine. I can send you links to the exact parts I used if you want. This rifle went together so well that I built a second with an almost identical setup... https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/r270/1450837_10202363119185843_310513690_n.jpg I used upgraded parts in this rifle including a better trigger group. The barrel, gas block and gas tube are the same as the other build, and the hand guard is a 12.5" lightweight Yankee Hill Machine. It's a much nicer hand guard than the other, but was a bit more expensive as well. You could probably easily get away with an 10" or 11" inch hand guard if you wanted to, but I like the look of the 12" length. Both rifles test fired fine, but I haven't had a chance to zero them in yet. Everything I hear about the barrel is good though, so it should be plenty accurate enough for paper punching and defense. |

Very nice! Please send links to both rails! And any other links you want to send! Quoted:

As shown by the others you are GTG with a free float.fore end system. There are many, some use a stock barrel nut ( easier in my opinion) and some use a proprietary nut unique to the rail . Go based on your budget and how many rails you want. The quad rails tend to be heavier,. A place like Rainier arms out of WA has a bunch to compare and drool over. Happy hunting. |
