The gun is a Colt 6920. Has a free float rail on it. I'm looking to replace the front sight; I don't like the triangular front sight block. I'm somewhat confused as far as what I need to do this.

Do I need to get a new gas block that allows me to mount the new sight onto it? My friend also said I can replace the stock FSB with a mini rail and then put a flip up sight on it, but I'm not sure if it'll meet with my free float rail and be continuous. I definitely would like to have the bottom rail section to put a bipod though.

I was looking at these 2 products:

Yankee Hill Machine Gas Block 2 Picatinny Rail .750
Yankee Hill Machine Hooded Front Sight Tower w/ Bottom Rail .750

What's the proper way to do this so it works right, I have a bottom rail section, and a new front sight? Like I said my only major concern is I don't want there to be space between my current quad rail and the front one.

You could chop your gas block like I did.Or buy A low pro gas block and add BUIS to the free float rail.
I personally don't like the gas block mounted BUIS. If you have a quad rail I don't see why a low profile or chopped gas block and back up irons won't work.

Maybe I'm not understanding the question.Forgive me if this is the case
Some very knowledgeable people here who can answer better then I can.Goodluck!

I think I understand the look you are going for.  Remove the FSB, replace it with a low profile base, and install a longer free float rail that covers more of the barrel.  The problem with your plan is that the an aftermarket gas block mounted the way that you are describing will become the weak point in your gas system.  Mounting a bipod to the bottom of it will cause two problems......it will eliminate the free float on your barrel and potentially cause your gas block to work loose.

What if I get this or this and I won't mount my bipod onto that section of the rail?

I really would prefer not to buy a whole new rail, considering I just spent a good bit on the free float one a couple months ago.

My objective here: replace the FSB with a flip up front sight. I was thinking I would get one the like above, because I could mount my new flip up sight on the end, in practically the same spot as the FSB (rather than moving it back a couple inches to the end of my free float rail.

Another question... This may sound stupid, but a friend of mine was saying that with the RDS I just bought, I don't need to line the dot up with a front sight. He said once I get it sighted in I don't even need a front sight. Is this true? I thought that depending on the angle I look into the RDS would change what the red dot is aimed at. If that makes sense.

With a red dot like an aimpoint or EOtech and some others,no you don't need a front sight.
With all red dots you don't need a front sight. However some red dots have paralex at closer ranges.
What red dot did you buy? Please don't say true glow
