Hey Guys!! New to the AR game and have some ?? I just purchased a Bushy flat top with a heavy barrel, it has a carry handle with scope mount on it. I have a Springfield 4-14x56 3rd Gen that I want to use on it. I will be using the rifle for target and hunting, will it be better to purchase a mount and install as a flat top or use with the handle mount? Also looking for a set of 30mm rings for a weaver style mount. Thanks Bill |

Well, with such a large objective lens, you are limited as to what where you can mount, espec. such as a strait line weapon like an M16. You can go foo the carry handle and hundreds of thousands of M16's have been used very well that way for over thirty years. With a 56mm objective, you can easily clear the hand guard. If you go lower with out the carry handle, you still don't want to bang into the hand guard. I would recomend using a sleeve on the platform that will do two important things. Allow you to extend a little foward of the receiver for such a big optic so the rings are spaced for better support, and you will also not have to use very much higher rings like if you went direct off the receiver. I like to keep the rings aspect as low as possible, because they are not as rugged as a rail/ sleeve, the higher the scope ring is from it's attachment point, the more prone it it is to get knocked out of wack.
