I can't find the thread which contains the breakdown by weight of the different metals that make up the jacket, core and case of a single round of 223/556 ammo. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Hopefully some one remembers this or the person who did the analysis. Thanks

It would seem my search of this forum can only go back 30 days. Can any of you moderators  assist me in finding this thread or these facts please?

I searched the archive and the last 3 months and didn't find the thread in question.  Any keywords you would like me to search?

Weight of copper per jacket or per bullet ??   or weight of copper per case ?
Weight of lead per bullet ??                         or weight of lead per case    ?
Weight of de-primed brass ??                      or weight of brass per case  ?

I guess it could turn up with phrases like that. The thread addressed these weights in regard to the cost of metal per round and thus per case of ammo of 223/556. Also the cost of powder and primer per round/case to offer a view towards the raw cost/value of ammo. Thanks

I know its easy to say a bullet weighs X, but this thread went as far as to separate the copper from lead and give individual weights for each as well as the other weights and values. Thanks

The only thing close I could find was a locked post here.  It would really help if you could nail down the author, or at least the time frame.  The archive allows you to search the body threads but it's not working for me now.  Just searching the ammunition forum I'm not finding anything.

Yeah, I read that thread recently. The info I'm looking for might even be a year old and I really wish I could remember the author. It is someone who went to the trouble of melting the lead away from the copper to get those individual weights. If your ability to search more deeply returns, I would be thankful if you would give it another try. Ronbou     edit: I'm sure it was the ammo forum though and it was very exact and factual.....not really some rant and rave.
