Welcome ,

$800 bucks will get you a quality product, my suggestion would be determine what you want the rifle to do for you first, persue the many "Tacked" topics like the Ammo Faq atop the Ammunition Forum which will increase your knowlege w/ reguard to barrel twist and the heavier weight rounds vs lighter weighted rounds.

The "Build it Yourself forum" is another place I'd throughly review the tacked information as it'll make your money go farther and still get you a quality product. Don't over look the fact that lowers are generally the same and high quality upper will most likely get you an accurate shooting weapon while an aftermarket trigger in almost any brand of lower will provide the maximum benefit to that high quality upper....

M4 ramped uppers are nice and allow for improved reliability if you intend on reloading hunting rounds (soft lead nosed bullets) - there's also the compactness of the shorter ARs which with quality uppers/barrels does not limit your range of use provided it's twisted properly for 77grnSMKs and the Hornady 75s (very good SD rounds).

Don't be over anxious; decide what will work for you then do your shopping as there are many many fine dealers around here.

I like LMT, BCM (BravoCompanyMachine), CMMG, Colt, Bushmaster, RRA, many which have links in buttons above or on the industry forum - stick with the quality parts and you should end up w/ a weapon you'll be proud to own.

For highest quality or custom ARs see the dealer MSTN and don't forget that nowdays the AR Variant forum provides ya information on various different calibered ARs (I love my CMMG 6.8mm SPC carbine which makes a fine deer rifle and is very accurate)

Good Luck,
mike

What my fellow Texan said. I think a quality AR can be had for under 800 bucks, if you're savvy about it. My first was a RRA Entry Tac, which has worked out great for me. If you want to build your own, or can have it built for you, a kit gun from Del-ton might get you the results you want. As far as complete rifles, check out the Equipment Exchange and see what comes up, you'll be surprised. Personally, I am building my second AR. I have a CMMG mid-length on the way, to mate to a DPMS lower i've got put together already. Best of luck!!
