I saw some High Standard ARs for sale today for (I think) $750. Anyone know about these? I've heard the lowers are CMT-made, but I don't about the complete rifles. I'd like to verify that the bores are chrome lined. They're 1:9 twist, which isn't my first choice, but would probably be fine for my friend who is looking at these. www.highstandard.com/milspecdetail.html Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Interesting, the brand name “High Standard” is that of a handgun manufacturer that went out of business back in the 1970’s. It looks like a number of investors have purchase the assets of the old High Standard, AMT, and other defunct gun companies and formed a corporation under the “High Standard” corporate name. But that said, it appears to me that this is just another start-up AR-15 manufacturing company without a proven market-base or quantity and quality of manufacturing. My first impression that these “High Standard” AR rifles will be, at best, on the caliber and quality of Olympic Arms or Model 1. As the old saying goes, ya pays your money and takes ya chances, very much applies here. I do understand that the AR15 rifle manufacturing field is very crowded now, but I would not be inclined not to take a chance on a new and unknown manufacturer; despite what the writer in “Gun Blast” states. My advice is to stick with the well known and proven manufacturers: Rock River Arms, Colt, or LMT. |

The guns look ok. What they are actually like, I dont know. I spoke to one of the guys at Shot Show this year, and guns can be purchased either with or without chrome lining. The one I saw had a Model One Sales (M1S) marked barrel. I was dispointed to see that. I'd probably pass on it. |

I have one of their receivers and it is very high quality, I can't talk about the complete rifles having never handled one. I have been told by a mutual friend that HS does the final machining and finishing of someone else's castings, he saw racks of unfinished receivers in their shop. Yes, HS is a reincarnation of the old High-Standard pistol company but in name only. As I recall, THIS HS is the company in Houston Texas that made the stainless Mitchell High-Standard .22 pistols a few years back, that reportedly didn't work too well. I can also tell you that the owner of the company does not have a good reputation among dealers and manufacturers in the Houston area, that's not to say he makes a bad product, he is not liked on a personal level. If you want an AR receiver with a Texas address on it you have two choices that I am aware of: HS and Grenadier Precision, and GOOD LUCK getting GP to fill an order. Sam |

They told me in March that they would be moving to Va in 2 weeks and told a buddy of mine who saw them at a carbine match a month later that they had plenty of receivers in stock. After 3 months of contradictions and unanswered emails and phone messages I cancelled my order. |
Don't know about their complete rifles, but the two high standard lower receivers I got from lonestarwholesale a few months ago look and function as well as any of the colts or pwa receivers I have. Their made by CMT so the quality is going to be as good as any other rifle manufacturers that use CMT recievers. This is just my experience with them, YMMV.
