i own 3 AR's but feel like i need 1 more, maybe a flattop. anyway, i saw a HS at a gunshow a while back, it looked as good as all the rest to me. has anyone owned or fired one? i hear very little about them, i just want something different without buying something with a lot of problems like the S+W's seem to have. right now, i have a bushmaster, an olympic plinker, and a FN/DPMS, they are all extremely accurate and reliable, i owned a Colt SP1 for many years, sold it and have never missed it. anyone with a review or opinion on the High Standards?    thanks.

Saturday, I got a used High Standard 16" bbl, Flattop carbine(no rear sights),chambered in 5.56,collapsable butt stock. I topped the picatinny rail with Leupold rings and a 3x9x40 scope. I was also impressed with the sturdiness & materials. See www.highstandard.com and www.gunblast.com for company and product info and a favorable review. These rifles began production @ High Standard in Houston,Texas in May 2005.My gun is #199. Hope it shoots well? This is my first exposure to the AR 15 type rifle. My previous experience with 223 has been single shots,AK Saiga and Mini 14.

I recently purchased one and have put about 800 rounds through it.  I had a few jams, but upon inspection EVERY since jam was caused by a defect with the reloads I was shooting.  I have fired a mix of Remington, Winchester, Wolf, and reloads and only had problems with five rounds ALL RELOADS.  It fires pretty tight groups @ 150 yards and I'm completely staisfied with it. It was brand new and serial is #00181_ (last one left off for security).  I walked out of the gun shop with it, two 30rnd mags and two hundred rounds of reloads for $865.  I went back two weeks later and he marked up the price to $980, so I guess I got it at the right time.

For my money it's a great rifle at a decent price (for ARs).
