I have a Bushnell Holo, Sightmark, & a Burris XTS-135 on the way .
I have been storing them without the battery installed to prevent gases from damaging them.
How and why do you store your optic$ to prevent damage and promote longevity?

Ps. I have heard of the Bushnell failing after storage, the only thing I could think of that could cause this is battery gases.
Input?

I bought a Bushnell years ago.  Of course, it uses the "N" battery.  I would recommend removing the battery if you know it will not be used.  Mine leaked and made quite a mess.  Got the insides cleaned and it runs like a champ.  Though I used a quality battery, but it still leaked.

For anything that uses alkaline batteries, you should take the batteries out before storage.

So many stories about "failed" EOTechs are really just people leaving alkaline batteries in the EOTechs for a long time, which inevitably kill the device when they leak.
If you use lithium or NiMH batteries, you shouldn't have to worry too much.

Geez, I've had my holosite on my AR for about 4 years now, always had the batteries in it.  It's my nightstand rifle.  No issues.  I've replaced the batteries 3-4 times.
