If you're talking about the ribs at the rear ring of the reciever, I wish you luck If you do get it accomplished, hope you'll post some pics Keep us posted |

You mean you want to take off the detent rib that holds the front pin in place? What the hell for? That's not an early M16 copy you'd be making; simply an SP1 copy (as he shakes his head in disbelief) You want an early M16 type lower; you've got to mill the reeinforcing material off the rear ring, square off the underside of the front lugs, and if you want a really early type, mill off the mag release fence--but you sure don't take off the rib that contains the spring and detent. |

Here's a link to how I did my early clone. www.roderuscustom.tzo.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?s=40d5095d043cffff;act=ST;f=3;t=194;hl=m16a1+clone |
Yup, you did a really nice job of building a clone of the Colt SP1 commercial lower---but it's not a clone of anything that was used in Viet Nam---it's a dup of what us civil;ians could buy from Colt during Viet Nam |
| A " Essential Arms " EA-15 recvr is probably the best starting point, Mill of the raised fences and selector switch stops. The front pin is the bitch to get that early slab side look but it is do able; Use an Air Force M16 upper with the counter bored front pivot pin hole then " This is the hard part " find a Mod 01 front pivot pin !!! |
