Has anybody tried to make one? Please share your instructions.

For the upper or barrel?  The barrel is easy.  Drill a hole in a 2x4 and cut it in half.  The upper is a bit trickier.  A lot of people have messed up an upper trying to rig something.  I think the price of the real deal is money well spent.

Don't use Pine.

Barrel blocks are cheap.   Get some

This one works for trigger guards (with or without grip installed), the mag release. FCG pins, CH pins, and a shit load of other little tasks.  I always have a few on my bench.

What is your labor rate?  You can buy them for $40 designed specifically for the rifle, perfect fit, already colored.  I'm not knocking the do-it-yourself, but these rock, and they are ready to ship and use.

I think you were asking the other guy, but my labor rate isn't that much.  I have 100's of the pre cut HDPE blocks.  I just drill the holes in about five blocks at a time using a jig.  (However, they are not for sale - just a statement to avoid any hassles)

The best block I have seen lately is made by RGuns.  It incorporates the lower block and the FSB block into one.  They are expensive, but I think I saw them through a different vendor for about $60.

+2.

A hockey puck or two come in extremely handy when working on firearms. I use them often.

RGuns Barrel/Receiver Block

Not being smart, but everyone has a labor rate.  If you have tons of time and a good resource for a block...Have at it.  I am a strong proponent of making if you can.  Agree...Hockey puck would be GREAT...Hard to find in Florida.

RGuns blocks LOOK like the bomb.  They have been out of stock on the $60 site (was that surplus ammo?) since the first guy posted here and they sold out.  $85 on RGun...They can keep them.  Trying to do the supply and demand thing...Go eat a bag-o-(place explative here)

ETA:  It's AIM Surplus for the RGUN...they are in stock for $55.95 free shipping.  Note BRETSHOOTER above.

Does anyone have the link to the old post of this?  It had the picture of both pieces used as a clamshell.

I love it how the OP gets those answers to a question he hasn't asked.... He asked if anybody tried to make it and the forum SAes chime in with "just buy one".  Well I'm sure that if the OP is smart enough to make it to the forum and konw that there are products that can be mimicked buy building at home, he wouldn't ask the question if he wanted to "Just Buy One"...

You tease me with the photos of these nifty looking bench blocks, but you don't ID them or give me a link.

Me thinks you wish to drive me crazy looking for these????

Please advise.  Thanks.

Check every thread in here...They all get off topic.  While you're at it, post another complaining about your thread that doesn't discuss anything on topic..

However, I still think we are on topic here.  I am posting: OPTIONS.  Most people want to assemble a lower NOW.  Most don't want to fiddle and fart around with a router, endmill, and chisel making something and make one slip to start all over.  If he is dead set, he can make one without a post on this forum.  However, most people never factor in what their time is worth.  At times, it is CHEAPER to buy versus make.  The items posted here are on topic!

The item I posted has combined two functions with basically one item - It's technology.  It is not only a massive holder milled to hold the shape of your rifle for knocking out the roll pins, it is ALSO a clam shell that allows you to clamp both pieces in a vise for barrels work, etc.  It basically takes two items I have in my tool box and now makes one.  If he is dead set on making one, he could copy the design and make into the same thing...Again - Options, and on topic.

If you want to just do what you do and never grow, then stay in a rut.  Most people that ask narrow questions don't know about other options available, and this is a time to "relay" information to help them succeed.  Most people like continuing education and learning, and most people appreciate the plethora of information provided - this is what makes this forum great.

Used as a clamshell for the lower?  I have never seen pics of this block (RGUNS) used with an upper.

Ok, you're right and I'm wrong, he wants to mill a block into a lower, that's what he wanted to do...

But the product you listed, i'm sure that over 80% of the people that come to the build it yourself side know about it plus I've never seen that one used as a "clamshell". So he wants to build one, thats why he asked if anybody could give him plans... I'm sure he could measure everything out and get one together with no help from the board. But he came here to see if anybody had already done it to capitalize on someone else's work... THAT's what makes the idea of this board great... I didn't say anybody was off topic, just answer the question asked.

I have a couple of them and they work great.  He used to have a kit to assemble lowers and sold them on EE but I haven't seen them for awhile.

Hey Coltgunner, it's been a while.  Hope everything is good.

PFC and Regnar, IM me your address.  I'll send you a couple of blocks with the holes. They won't have the little bar in them, but they perform the same.
