I've heard of people pushing MK18 builds out to 600 yards and more but that's bannnas. With an ACOG or a ACSS reticle how far would or could you push a 11.5 pistol?

acog ballistic reticles designed for 16" barrels don't match velocities out of sbr or short pistol barrels.

thus on my MK18 pistol i use an acog with a no-tick standard crosshair reticle, so have to guess hold-over.

with it i can regularly hit plates to 300-400yds. at 500 hold-over becomes too much guesswork.

one could use a mil-dot or TMR-type reticle scope and build a range card for different "ticks" at given yardage. that might help, but i find that the velocity loss from 11.5" barrels create too much drop to make those longer shots really viable.

Barrel length affects velocity, that's all.

You can push it until you run out of adjustment.

A 10.3" barrel will still offer optimal terminal performance to just over 300yards with Fed Fusion, and still poke holes in stuff past that.

ETA: I guess if you really, really wanted to have some imaginary boundry, then whatever distance the round becomes subsonic could be such an imaginary boundry.

I limit my 10.3 to 200yds.

I have taken my 14.5 out to 600 after that the wind is your bitch(actually from 500-600 it starts getting pretty tough but I can still keep it on the plate most of the time) . so with a 10.5 I would say you would start getting your ass handed to you a few hundred yards sooner.  running 5.56 pressure 77's or the like will give you alot of help, but that help only goes so far.

I've taken my 12" 6.5 Grendel out to 800yds regularly, with 9/10 hit probability with some of the lowest BC factory ammo available.

For 5.56, it depends on your twist rate and what bullet you shoot, but it's hard to see/hear much of a register on steel targets past a certain range if there is any wind above about 5mph.

11" 6.5 Grendel has more energy at the muzzle than a 20" 5.56 NATO, with twice the projectile weight and way higher BC.

It's very fun to shoot at distance.

you can hit with regularity at 100 yards

4th of july weekend I shot a larue 10.5 out to 950yds.  I guess it depends on what you want to hit.

10.5 Grendel? valkyrie? .308?

If 5.56 I raise the BS Flag

I only shoot my 8.5" 5.56 pistol out to 100 yards.  I have no reason to shoot it further.  I have shot my 11" 7.62x3 pistol out to 200 yards.  I got 7" groups using steel cased wolf ammo and a vortex red dot.  I have certainly satisfied.

My 9-inch 300 BO with a 3X Vortex Prism scope will shoot about 2MOA at 100 yards with my sub-sonic reloads.  I can ring a 10-inch gong at 200 yard at will with the same ammo.

I've shot my 11.5 out to 500. Had about 50% hit rate using m193. Good enough for me.

My 11.5" Rosco Bloodline barrel is accurate out to 300 yards. 100 yards I can easily get 1-1.5 MOA. Mk262 Mod 1.

Same here... out to 200 yards with 55 grain Wolf soft points in my 10.5', 3x Spitfire. Same distance with my Scorpion, same dedicated Vortex Spitfire 3x, Speer Lawman. Of course you can shoot further with Hornady & IMI, or other premium and hotter ammo.

I can get hits out to 400 yards with my 10.3" MK18 and 10.5" LMT MRP Pistols when equipped with my Nightforce NX8 and using good ammo (if I do my part).

My 12.5" Grendel pistol will do about double that with the same optic.

About 30 yards....or however long the local indoor range is.

Why is it bananas, exactly?  We are talking about paper, or steel here, correct?

Unless we are discussing terminal wound channels on a water buffalo, we can all enjoy shooting out to 600 to ring steel with barrels as short as 10.3

I'm in the hills. About 150 max, usually 75 and under.
