Just bought five RRA lowers, and am not in an immediate rush to build them up. I want to store them, eh will say one year.
Now, I want to protect them but have limited space. I was thinking about soaking em in CLP and placing them in bags, maybe even FoodSaver. Or, us FS or similar bags with dessicant packets. Or, better ideas from the "hive". I cant:
So what say you? Give me some ideas before the wife starts browsing the board to sell em behind my back!!! |

Look at their VCI bags(left column ,poly gun bags) |

Right now,I've only got 1 lower. And it's sitting on my desk reminding me that I need to do something with her. I'm planning on buying at least 3 more before the end of the year. I'm not really too concerned about storage. I'll probably just put them in my gun cabinet and forget about them until I get motivated. |

since aluimium does not rust I would just stick 'am in a 50.cal ammo can and put it in the closet. Yes it does, it oxidizes, the correct word. Oxidized iron = rust, oxidized aluminum = carborundum. true, but not in this case. toss 'em in the ammo can and no problems |
This is some kind of trick question, right? One of my AR's is 20 years old, and has had no special treatment, and is still in just dandy shape. I guess that stripped lowers must need some form of special attention with regards to preservation since they are hard anodized aluminum.

It does. However, I remember from some welding classes, that the surface oxidation "seals" all the aluminum underneath and prevents further oxidation. Much like black oxide on steel. This is why savvy tig welders will take the time to rub down aluminum surfaces with steel wool before welding. The finish on your lowers should prevent any oxidation, but I have OCD as well and would probably oil em up. |
| Just stick them in your sock drawer. There is absolutely no reason baby them, keep them oiled, seal them in bags, or use desiccants. They're anodized aluminum for crying out loud, and oil, bags and desiccant aren't going to do anything to protect your lowers while they're being stored. In 100 years someone will open your sock drawer and they'll look the same as the day they left the factory. |
