IF they're taper pins, and they should be,  one end will be smaller in diameter than the other.

You give a firm, sharp hammer blow (with pin punch) to the smaller end of the pins, driving them out toward the big end.

USUALLY,  the pins are inserted from the right side (shooter's right) so must be hammered
out from the left side, but don't assume this.  Check your pins and drive them from the
skinny side only.

A few FSBs have straight pins, or so I've heard.   I've never seen one.  Those should come
out from either direction but may need a lot of persuasion.

This particular fsb is on a bushmaster. These pins are also rounded on the end. Makes it difficult to put a punch on. Are there any punches with a rounded or concave end?

Yes, most nail punches are like that, but they are also ussually tappered, so they are only good for starting the FSB pin. Once the pin is inside the fsb, a regular punch should be able to finish the job.

For the Bushy, if you're holding the rifle, the taper pins exit from left to right.  You'll definitely need a taper pin punch to get it started.  When I knocked the pins out of mine, it took quite a bit of hammering and also the Brownells front sight bench block.

The M1S upper I have has straight pins in the FSB.  Easier to remove but you have to make sure the sight is aligned correctly when putting the pins back in.  Too easy to peen the holes.
