How long are you willing to wait for an upper? Right now I'm 70 days into a wait for an upper. Said company is apparently so busy that their phone number gives a busy signal every time I've tried calling for the last two days. I need to get ahold of them to get them my new credit card number as my old one was fraud compromised. I sent them an e-mail yesterday, also. We'll see when/if I get a response to that.
Going into it I expected the potential for a 60-90 day wait. I guess they were serious. I've seen other orders turned around much more quickly. I guess I'm just getting antsy. I guess my other question is: From a business perspective, when you get 3 months backlogged, at what point do you either add more capacity, or stop taking orders until you are caught up? |
| It doesnt matter how back logged as long as they tell you its gonna be a long wait.Increasing capacity takes money and if your not crazy ass buisy all the time its hard to make upgrades to a factory or buisness without charging higher prices if the volume you do in buisness isnt off the charts all the time.If you only have say a buisy season that starts at the beginning of the year and only lasts 4 or 5 months then its hard to justify the cost of expanding without passing on that cost to the consumer of the companies products. If i were back logged 6 months or what ever time and people are willing to wait im gonna keep taking orders in the end its what your willing to put up with as far as time to fullfill your order. |

If the product was something i couldn't get anywhere else and was "the best" then sure, Id wait 6 months or so.
But if its just another upper that I could buy at a dozen different companies, Ill pass. ETA... this should be in General Discussion not the Tech forums. |

| It is a fairly specific product..... I wish they would just sell me the components so I could assemble it. I guess I'm frustrated because I'm waiting 2-3 months for somebody to spend the 20 minutes to assemble a basic DI set-up and run a set of guages through it. Oh well. I'm just impatient because I'm excited. I have a big desert trip next weekend and would have loved to get it before then. |

I'll post this before this thread gets moved.
I'm in the same boat. I also ordered from a company over two months ago, on Black Friday. I got an amazing deal on an A2 upper with a CL LW middy barrel. Not many places sell this configuration, and none have one within $150 of the price I got. I went through the order process and thought everything was in stock and ready to be built and shipped. I got an e-mail a week later telling me the barrel I had specified was out of stock, and my order was now on backorder. They didn't give me any idea how long it would take. About six weeks ago I started writing them e-mails asking what would be the ETA for this order. I was told several times that "the barrel I had ordered was in the final stages of processing, and the order should be processing soon." No ETA. I finally wrote them a few days ago and basically demanded an ETA. I was informed that the barrels were shipped to phosphate on 1/24/12 and it should be 3-4 weeks before they get started on filling backorders. I figure it will be another two weeks or so until I actually get it. If I had known how long it was going to be, I would have cancelled and taken advantage of someone else's Black Friday deals, but I didn't find out that my order was backordered until the BF deals were over. Coincidence, I think not. SO, I have been waiting for 10.5 weeks, and am going to be waiting for at least a few more. I have a sneaking suspicion that we are dealing with the same company, but in the interest of impartiality, I won't say who it is. I have thought many times about cancelling the order, and buying stuff for another build with the money, but I know I want the upper that I ordered. I would just end up buying it later, and probably not for as cheap. I have already waited over two months. Another month and a half is not going to kill me. Now that I know when to expect it, the waiting is a little easier. I can just put it in the back of my mind. The hard part is going to be NOT spending the money before they ship it. I did think that they would have offered me something for my patient wait. Nothing big, a couple of mags or something. When that didn't happen, I thought maybe getting a little impatient would persuade them to offer me a small consolation, but that didn't work either. I am wondering if I should just ask straight up for them to send me something extra. |

Yeah.... I know my 70 days is a lot less than a lot of people wait. We'll see how long it really takes. I'd prefer not saying whom it is. I think they are a fair company and not until after it's worked past the advertised 60-90 days will I be upset. Right now I'm anxious, but not upset.
For information sake: it's a 16" wylde chambered NM A3 upper. I plan on using it with fixed iron sights for practice and fun and maybe eventually 3 gun. |

What the hell is feeding this? Concerns that 'the ONE' will win another term and finally get around to screwing with us? Or is there something else? I keep hearing that gun demand is simply silly right now. Moon Prices are down. Public awareness of firearms are up. Economic concerns are making people consider future safety. I think the crazies that are concerned about Obama taking away more firearms rights are a small minority. If anything those assholes will be the ones driving prices back up from creating hysteria. |

Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these people remember 2008 and plan on capitalizing on a recurrence |
