How many rounds and how fast can you guys fire through your AR's before you deem it to be bad for the rifle?  I know it probably depends on your barrel and such, but I image there is a standard out there I just havn't found one yet.  So.. how many rounds per minute and such....  Oh, btw only semi-auto matters factors in for me, though you can go that route if you want. :)
All opinions welcome, thanks

That is not a problem yoiu even need to think about. Enjoy your AR as much and as fast as you like. You cannot hurt it.

I tried to kill an old cast olly light barrel AR I had . I ran out of loaded mags at
630 rounds . The only damage was the handguard melted a little at the
gas block end . I expected the gas tube to fail first , but it never happened
and was only red hot for the fist inch or so coming out of the FSB . The barrel
was already whipped before I started , but it was no worse after it cooled down
then it was when I started

Thats good to hear.  So with a semi autio I'm not going to be able to overheat the barrel?

Hehe, me and chrome posted at the same time.  That solves my problems for now, the most loaded ammo I can have is 360 rounds.  How long did it take you to fire the 600 rounds?

I didn't time it , but it was as quick as I could pull the trigger and reload ,
but I should add that I had the gun resting on a sandbag with more bags
stacked on top of it and I was pulling the trigger from a crouch behind it .
So that slowed me down a little , but it was well under 10 min .

It makes a big difference what barrel it is too.  Like my AR has a JP 18" Ultra-light weight bull barrel with a 7" aluminun heat sink around the relieved part of the barrel, so this isn't an issue on my end either.  HAVE FUN! Don't worry, like they guys said, you wouldn't shooting 600 rounds in under ten minutes anyway!  LOL.  Good question though.  I have a friend who is extremely paranoid about this, but he won't listen to anyone.  Heat thinks his barrel is constantly warping.  Oh well!

even in full auto, you really have to be shooting a lot to mess up a chrome lined barrel, and a little less to mess up a chromemoly barrel.

Rapid fire accelerates throat errosion.  X number of rounds fired slow does NOT = X number of rounds fired rapidly.

I have an old article where some homo from one of the gun rags fired 10,000 rounds through a Colt Hbar in one day.  The barrel was ruined.  Massive throat errosion and keyholes on the target by the end.

Now under normal shooting the barrel would have lasted at least two or three times that number of rounds.

I read a review on the surefire suppresor that they killed a pair of M4's trying to destroy the suppresor.

I don't recall any number of rounds but it was all mag dumps in full auto and I suspect it was a lot.

You would have to work really hard to hurt it and it is unlikely without a full auto.

I agree.  All I'm saying is you can get quite a few rounds down range before your barrel goes kaput.

He he, greats responses guys - thanks for the info.  I'm all assured now - I'm just too poor to destroy my barrel by rapid fire
