is a RRA "military brake" than any other flash suppressor (birdcage, phantom, vortex, etc.)?  I've got the military brake installed on my RRA midlength and it's pretty loud.  Since it's my only AR and don't have anything to compare it to, I would like any input you all can offer.  Thanks.

They are all about the same, sound wise.. I think the Phantom and Vortex arent as loud as the others. Correct me if Im wrong, but any muzzle device that lessens the sound of the shot must be considered a suppressor... I know some FHs direct the sound away from the shooter, instead of back at him/her. Not a FH geniuse so my info isnt text-book.
