I have a bushmaster varminter that has a threaded barrel, The threads are a little buggered, I got a new crush washer and put a new comp , it is a SJP, when I was putting it on with a wrench it lined up with minimal force, I mean it wont come off by hand ( I tried it) and it seems tight, how tight does it have to be? I was using an 8" cresent wrench, Thanks,Dean

15 to 20 foot pounds is the norm.

Especially because its a comp you need to line it up properly more than you need to tighten it to a certain ft pounds.

It is tight, I tried to move it with my hands and it would not budge, I got the comp to time correctly, I just felt one more full revolution would be no good, should I use some red locktite?
