i have one of these for my red dot.how tight do i clamp it to the rail?  Do i just hand tight or do i tighten it with a wrench?  I'm a little worried that i might over tighten it and damage the rail.  TIA

See those flats spots on the nut? Those are put there to accommodate a wrench. If those nuts were round and had a knurled surface, then they would just need to be finger tight.   Use a dab of blue Loctite on those threads.

See that portion of your original post that I quoted? Don't live your life that way.

Yes, you'll need to wrench it a bit.  I find that even thumbscrew mounts need a little wrenching to keep them solid and stable.

This is a hard ring to damage the clamp on, and the clamps are unlikely to damage the rail, as the clamping pressure is spread over about an inch.  If snug it up tight and don't gorilla it down, you should be fine.

Usual specs for scope rings is 65 in/pounds for the base mount and 15 in/pounds for the torx screws.
