I have an M4 clone with green furniture. I'd like to switch the green parts for black. When it comes to the stock, the only part I really need is the shoulder piece, not the tube, buffer spring, etc. I'm told they're made in two different configurations: 'commercial,' and Mil Spec. How do I know which configuration I have so I know which part to pursue...?
Thanks! |

Shy of measuring the outside diameter with a caliper, a milspec tube would typically be flat on the end versus the slanted end of a commercial tube. Also, the threaded portion of a milspec tube will feel raised over the rest, while the threaded portion of a commercial tube will feel the same diameter as the rest. Hope this helps, and welcome to the community. |

Thanks Headbar! That's easy to understand. If I remember right, I pull the lever DOWN and slide the stock off the tube, and then I should see the flat or slanted end?
Thanks for the welcome, too. Member of many sites, but new to ARs. I bought a used/exc Core 15 M4 Scout before Christmas and promptly went on vacation without firing it. I stressed a little over the mixed reviews I read while away, but when I finally got to function fire it (on a snowy roadside, no paper targets) I was happy. No hiccups. I had put a good quality rear sight on the flat top receiver and the water jugs disappeared as expected. Can't wait to shoot for group and see what it will do. It came with green parts, which don't thrill me, but I felt like I was racing the White House at the time, so I didn't worry about that. Would love to float a forearm eventually and throw an optic on it, but I (and my wallet) like iron sights for most things. I'm learning a lot here, and again, thanks for the welcome. |

Also, thanks to 14point5 for the pictorial. Funny, it was what I referenced my answer from. One of these days I will figure out how to post more than just pics. |
