I think I found a good deal on a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40 ($300).  If this is a good deal, what will I need to mount it on a flattop?  This is my first rifle and I've never used a scope, so this is new for me.  Do I have multiple options like something high quality (and price) from LaRue and perhaps something less expensive but still quality?  Thanks in advance for the help.

ETA: My rifle is a 16" with standard front sight.

personally i would go w/LaRue, but you could go with any cantilever mount or a scout rail w/rings. search some of the pic. boards and see if there is something that catches your eye.

I only see 30mm options on the Larue site, am I missing something?  Also, are there any brands to stay away from?  I would rather spend the money up front and get it right.  Thanks.

here

in the order box you can select 34mm, 30mm, or 1"

If you're not interested in quick detachment, a cantilever mount and some standard Picatinny rings will work also.

Here's my example;  An RRA Scout Rail with Burris XTR rings

I guess I assumed a 40mm scope needed a 40mm mount.  Is this not the case?

nope you need the mount for whatever main tube size your scope is. chances are it's a 1" or 30mm (most are)

ETA. my bushnell elite 3200 is a 1" tube

OK I see, thanks again for the help.

The 40mm is for the objective diameter, this has nothing to do with the size rings you'll need.
