I feel like an idiot, but I would rather be an idiot than break my new CMMG upper. So I though the plastic handguards just split open. Is there a trick?

The base of the hand guards, in front of the receiver there is a ring.

You press down on it, towards the receiver until you can pull the hand guard off.

Pull back hard on the delta ring & slide the halves off one at a time. Sometimes this takes two people to accomplish more easily if you have a stubborn ring. The easiest & quikest way is to use a handguard removal tool available from most shops.

You have to push down hard on the delta ring and then pull the hand guards off. You might need a buddy to help you.

Get a propane cutting torch and melt then off. But there is more than one way to skin a cat...

I know it's probably completely safe to use that tool, but I don't like the idea of using my lower as a fulcrum.

I just don't think it's that hard to remove the hand guards to begin with to require a tool.

Its also easiest if you separate the upper and lower.

push down on delta ring, seperate one side, then the other

best if the 'buddy system' is used

i don't want to know the details of that experiment.

Seriously, most of them aren't difficult to remove, but having a friend around can help. that tool is a solution looking for a problem in my opinion

Most of the time you never really need to remove them, the tool is completly safe on
your rifle , If you plan on doing a lot of removel or plan on getting into buliding
or swapping . It's worth buying for $17.00

Why does anyone need help removing hand guards? I use one hand to pull down on the ring and i remove each half with my other. It's always been easy for me.

Instead of commenting why someone needs help...in a technical forum how about if we concentarte on just helping when a poster has a question.I hate questions answered with questions how about focusing on answers and this place will be a lot better take in for many im sure.
