Hello,
I got one of those Lakeside spring kits and am wondering if anyone can walk me through replacing the trigger spring on a FA lower. Thanks for the help! Jake |

It should be really easy. Have a punch of the right diameter (don't recall it off the top of my head) handy, tape over the side of your lower that you're going to be working from so a slip doesn't goober it up, and you're ready. (Of course you'll need to be able to tell where those pins are, so tape carefully!)
First, use the punch to PUSH (not "drive") the HAMMER pin out. You may need to tap it a little to get the pin to disengage from the "J" spring inside the hammer that holds it in place, but once it's moved less than 1/8" it'll slide out easily. Once you have it started, control the hammer with one hand as you pull the pin the rest of the way out. Now lift out the hammer and its spring. Now the trigger pin should be easy to push out (since the hammer spring's legs held it in place. Push it with the punch to get it started, then, while controlling the disconnector, pull the pin out. Now lift out the trigger. The next step is to remove the original spring from the trigger and slip the new spring into place. Once the new spring is on, put the trigger in place, start the pin into the hole, and push it through until it's flush. The hardest part of this step is lining up the disconnector so the pin goes through it-and that's not too difficult. Some people use the punch as a guide to get the holes lined up. It shouldn't take more than firm finger pressure to push the pin in once the trigger is lined up. Finally, put the hammer back into place, and line up its hole with the holes in the lower. Push the SMOOTH end of the hammer pin through the hole in the lower and into the hammer. About half-way through the pin will try to stop-that's when it hits the "J" spring in the hammer. At this point lay the lower down on a solid surface with the protruding pin pointing up. Put the punch on the pin, and TAP IT GENTLY with a light mallet. It won't take much to get the "J" spring to let the pin pass. Now push the pin firmly (you may need to use the punch to do this, but PUSH the punch, don't even tap it) until the pin is flush. You'll probably feel it seat when the "J" spring lines up with the groove in the middle of the pin. You're done. Changing out trigger and hammer springs is one of the easiest things to do on an AR. |
