I'm sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I didn't want to screw anything up.  I just got my M3 and mount as well as an SPR mount from laRue and I want to install both.  The mounts both came with a little tube of blue LocTite and I assume the intent is to put a few drops on each screw thread to keep them from backing out.

The question is:  how much to use (1 drop/screw or more) and do you use it on every screw?  Also is LocTite a must for an average user or is it mainly for high use weapons?

I'm just trying to keep from making a mess of my mounts before I install them.

Thanks!

I wet the threads and screw them in a bit. Make sure the scope is right where you need it and begin tighten them. Now make sure your scope is still where you need it or make corrections. Tighten it up.

LaRue gives you plenty for your screws. LaRue gives people the same vial of Loctite for people who has 4 or 8 bolts. You'll have plenty. I don't think you can use too much ... all that would do is make a mess on your mount. You'll do alright, don't worry.

I'm happy to read that it all worked for you. You don't need to use a whole bunch of the stuff to get it to work. I use a grade for the bottom end of engines that spin at 7500 RPMs + and I don't coat the bolts. When I mount a scope, I don't coat the screws. I put just enough on the lower threads and as I turn the screw in its tapped hole, that's enough to spread the loctite over the rest of the threads. As it cures, the loctite expands exerting pressure on the screw and the tapped hole ensuring that vibration won't cause the screw to back out. Loctite is not something you want all over mechanical parts especially when you can't see where it ends up.
