Anybody have a suggestion for an economical pair of scope rings for coyote hunting? They need to be high enough to clear my buis and and the bell of my 4.5–14×40 scope. The local fun store guys want to sell me a pair of Leupold QRW rings that I'm pretty sure aren't high enough.

Thanks for any recommendations!

QRW X-high rings would probably work depending on the size of your BUIS.  What are you using?  I believe there are better options than the QRW's though.  You can find lightly used (or even new, sometimes) Armalite 1-piece scope mounts for $40 on the EE.  You'll get much better eye relief with that mount since it can position the scope further forward if you need that.  I had the Armalite mount on my old precision AR and loved it.  It did the same thing as the LaRue mount for much expense.  MJD

for an economical setup I have used a pair ofYHM mini risers and Burris rings
they are good quality for the money and will position the scope at the proper height.

Thanks! I keep forgetting that Armalite has a such an economical scope mount. FWIW, I have a Troy folding rear.

Thanks for your suggestion as well! I have another question, though. What's the purpose behind using medium-height rings and the YHM scope risers, versus using just high Burris rings?

you may be able to get away with just using high Burris rings but your scope may not clear the BUIS. the high rings are only slightly taller than the medium rings - Midway lists the ring height for the med as .255" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) and the high is .450" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube)
I have found the Burris Med rings with a 1/2 inch riser put the scope at the perfect height (for me at least)

Warne Ultra-High QD rings will clear just about anything and they're quality rings at reasonable prices.  They place the scope high enough to eliminate the need for a riser.  Here's a pic of my RRA Predator Pursuit with the Ultra-High QD's.  The scope is a Leupold 3-9x40 for reference.
