I know this topic has been beat to death; however I plan on hunting some florida whitetales with my ar some this season and trying to decide which bullet to load 55 grain rem sp or wichester 64 grain power point. Im really interested in a bullet that will fragment in the dear. The way i look at it im not going to take the same shots I would take with 3006, but wait on perfect shot placement and close range. Suggestions would be most excelent thanks |

Federal has a 60gr Nosler Partition load. I don't know how well it'll perform on deer but I suspect it's worth considering. I do know how well it has performed on some very decently sized 'yotes. The 64gr PP should do it as well. As others have mentioned, i think I'd stay away from HP's od any weight. I'm no expert but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express... RG |

Go with the 64grain Win. I loaded up some of those for a cull hunt. With good bullet placement, you won't be disappointed. You'll want to stay away from frag bullets. They explode instantly. I was going to shoot a small doe in the head from about 200 yards with my .22-250 using 55 gr V-max. I completely botched the shot and ended up taking right behind the shoulder. (I still can't figure it out to this day what happened) The deer dropped, but the bullet exploded under the hide. It did shatter two ribs and rupture the heart. I was very lucky. That deer was not very big for Wisconsin. Probably about 100 lbs. |
