Just picked up a Hy-Tech block. I can't insert the block far enough into the magwell for the mag catch to lock it. I can open the upper/lower at the rear take down pin and insert the block until it locks. I can then close the upper/lower, but it's a very tight fit. There seems to be a lot of pressure on the mag catch once it's closed. So much so that I can't press the mag release button to release the block. I have to separate the two halves again to release the block. I'm a little concerned with that much pressure on the mag release and between the upper and lower. Has anyone else experienced this with the Hy-Tech? If so, did it cause any problems? Thanks for your input. |

Mine was hitting the inside of the upper. I had to chamfer both sides of the block to get the upper to close. It doesn't take much. http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee312/67chevroletcamaro/hytech.jpg |
I thought that maybe it was hitting in that area. You've saved me a lot of troubleshooting... Thanks! ETA: Where you able to insert the block into the locked position without having to open the upper/lower after you did this mod? |

Mine is snug when closing since April 2003... the mild downward pressure keeps you from readily pushing the AR mag button and dropping the block. I still open mine and install the block, then close the upper. Use the snug fit to your advantage to eliminate the wiggle loosness normally found on the AR/M16 family upper-lower fit, makes the rifle more 1 piece like.. |
Yep. I think it was designed this way to keep you from dumping the block with the "standard" mag release button. |
Without the block, the Spikes lower and RRA upper did have the normal amount of looseness. I must admit I was happy to see things tightened up when I inserted the block. My concern was for the amount of pressure on the mag catch. But, I guess that's easy enough to replace. |
