So back in November I had posted a thread (which is now archived) asking for any advice on a gunsmith that could fix my broken lower. I had used a punch to try and put the roll pin into the lower trigger ear by the grip. Well, I FINALLY got it done and I just wanted give big shout out and THANK YOU to Derek Allison from Sportsman Guns & Ammo out of Conroe, TX! He is nothing short of a magician when it came to this fix as far as I'm concerned. Very nice guy and extremely understanding. I understand a lot of guys know of him on this forum, and nothing but sincere sentiments from me if anyone ever needs this done; we all know someone who has done exactly what I did. I have a stark on an AR .
Say whatever you want to about that grip , but if your lower is broken on that particular side That grip can be a lifesaver Back story if anybody cares I traded Some tools for an AR with a busted "ear" This "broken" AR had been in pieces for almost 5 years - the owner kept saying he was going to get a new stripped lower , he then lost interest in fixing it ( said it was an embarrassment - he is an FFL dealer and said he would not sell it in its condition ) I kept hounding him every so often and finally we made a trade . I was so excited to get it for basically nothing that I bought a stripped DPMS lower at a gun show and before I left I bought the Starke grip for $35 used. I figured what the heck - I would try the Starke and worst case I was out $35 . I tired it and It hides the damaged part and functions perfectly. The lower that I had purchased "to fix it the right way " just got used to build an AR pistol

It's an AAC lower which matches my AAC 300BLK upper. I'm OCD in a way about matching parts so the cost was totally worth it to me. AAC doesn't sell stripped lowers so this was my only recourse or find another complete AAC lower for $500...if you can find them. |

I jbwelded the one i broke off years ago and it holds just fine. Definitely not worth fixing if it is just a $50 lower.
That said, i like the new lowers with the oversized trigger guard manufactured into the casting like the Anderson lower I picked up from FATBOY TACTICAL. |

I did the same thing on my lower. I fixed it with JB Weld and got an off brand aluminum enhanced trigger guard. Taped the trigger guard and then JB Welded the ear back on and screwed the trigger guard in place. Its held in so far and I've been pretty rough with it.

Yeah I seen those, they are cool, great idea for sure.
The tool-less trigger guard that I designed is totally different, it's a very clever and unique design. It doesn't rattle. It can be installed in lightning speed with no tools. Removed in seconds with the tip of a bullet. Lighter weight that our existing billet trigger guard. Stronger attachment method than the roll pin. Absolutely not damage to the receiver, can be installed and removed as many times as you want. I can't say much more about it because we are in the process of getting it patented. It's pretty trick though, when you guys see it you will wonder why they haven't been this way from the beginning. I can't wait to show it to you guys. |

Spikes - I am interested in hearing more about the new trigger guard. Do it right and I will be a customer.
I wear winter gloves when shooting most of the year, and wanted a larger trigger guard opening to accommodate the gloved finger. I had a terrible time wrestling with a poorly made Magpul oversize trigger guard during a recent install. Cheap junk, with even cheaper junk hardwear provided by Magpul for the install. That experience fits right alongside quality-wise with the Magpul K pistol grip purchased at the same time that came packaged with an attachment screw too short to catch all but the first thread in my Colt AR's receiver. It takes a bit of torque to get a solid grip attachment. Had I continued to force the screw to engage, I'd have stripped out the lower threads for sure. I can fix anything, and can usually get things to cooperate with a slow and steady hand. But this time I wisely gave up and just re-used my original Colt A2 grip screw (a good 1 inch longer in length!!!). Please, fellas, when you design a product, try it out on a gun before marketing it. I don't get it. Just sayin. OK, I'm calm now. Snug15 |
