2011 - 2013, I was a Mashak for Marva, which really meant I did logistics and was a counselor as well. Was based in Sde-Boker, lived in Beit Keshet for a while and then Ginegar, near Afula. No regrets, just wish I had been able to learn more Hebrew in basic, that was my biggest struggle.

Joined through mahal and volunteered for 2 months in Sar-El before I went in. http://www.mahal-idf-volunteers.org/

Unit: Cant for the life of me remember the name.

Most excellent! I have a carbine close to yours, minus the suppressor and red dot. I need to get a suppressor at least, that looks amazing.

727 "Gordon Carbine" clone.  A2 with field sites (727 style).   Started originally with a Wyndham pinned 14.5 M4 barrel.  I had it chopped to 12.5" and a Allen Engineering collar fabricated for the AEM5 suppressor.  Skinny handguards and Brownells Car15 stock.  Geissele G2S trigger.  Aimpoint 5000 red dot.  PSA M162 lower, stamped. Rustoleum khaki, green, and olive paint.

I like this a lot. Need one in my stash. Any chance you can show a picture of how the AE collar and brake look like? Without the suppressor of course.

What model Blackhawk pack is that? I have an older 3-day pack I love, but would like a larger pack for longer trips. (Not that I don't have enough packs...)

I would have preferred a non M4 profile, but itā€™s what I had to cut down.

Sorry if I missed it but what length is the barrel now?

That looks like the long collar for the AEM5.

That's excellent. I'm guessing you didn't need the gas port opened up at all?

12.5" barrel.  Gunsmith tuned the gas port and he fabricated the collar himself.

Pictured is my best attempt at an IDF clone. I ordered a retro mil-spec stock for this rifle, but found out the Del-Ton has a commercial tube. Live and learn I guess. The sling is an older style Zahal sling.

Shalom! POST PICS OF ALL OF THEM!!! :)

[#20]
there were not too many digital cameras around in early 90s :)

got a few pics that were scanned at some time:

this is early 1994 with my M16A2 I think

same time, same rifle in my right hand - as I remember, this was taken when we were goofing off in the barracks... probably under some influence... don't even remember who's gear it was - but all the guys in that room were Russian Jews.  we were a bunch of troublemakers

and this one is late 1995 - I was out of the combat role and had a hand-me-down piece of shit Galil 5.56... soon after got a shorter Glilon, but have no pics

Samal,

Hello and thanks for posting the wonderful photos.

I particularly like the photo of the A2 and the Uzi. Nice combination!

I have been watching this thread for some time now and decided to make a clone IDF rifle from one of the AR's I already owned. I ordered a set of bands and a couple of the newer style slings from Zahal, and found an older style sling on e bay. I really like the slings!

All the best to you!

looking back, it is an A1 upper with round HG... but I thought I remember having A2 lower on the rifle and it did have forward assist... I know because I used it once... maybe I am wrong... it's been 30 years

I just bought a Brownell's 12.7" barrel to mount on a C7 upper. Even have a retro brace, and was planning an IDF pistol... but now I'm wondering. If the BATF bans braces (and I think they will) or says that rifle-caliber pistols aren't pistols, then I'm screwed unless I register it. Anyone else mulling this kind of decision over right now?

you probably want to start with a 14.7" barrel if you're going to pin an A1 flash hider, to get to 16".
14.5" + A1 (or A2) FH won't get to 16" ATF legal.

Or just use a spacer. I think that's a better/easier option. 14.5 barrel + spacer + FH = Good to go.
ADCO sells them if you send to them for the pin and weld.
I'm sure some others have them too...

Or go the Colt XM177E2 route...but that's gonna cost you a pile o' money...and not exactly as you described...

I thought I was finally done with building ARs cause of kids and other life responsibilities taking precedent

Then earlier this year traded a Glock 42 for an AR pistol I had helped build so my buddy could have a carry gun. I was in process of reassembling it using a quality barrel (had some no known brand barrel) and changing out the brace when ATF started asking a fool. When I was debating about how I was going to continue, I came across a great deal on a 16ā€Spikes Tactical barrel. Then remembered I had a Larue 7ā€ rail that @hueto hooked me up with. Was almost about to send the barrel off to get chopped, then came across a Nodak A1 upper on the EE. Decided i needed to go semi retro cause thatā€™s where I spent most of my time when I first joined the forum

As stands, the specs will be as follows
-PSA grim reaper lower (got it free, donā€™t hate)
-PSA LPK
-MagPul enhanced aluminum trigger guard
-H2 buffer and Wilson combat recoil spring
-CAR stock
-Nodak M16A1 upper
-Spikes Tactical 16ā€ carbine barrel
-Spikes Tactical nitride gas tube
-Larue Rail
-PSA BCG premium full auto

On order to finish it out
-Aero precision upper parts kit
-A1 rear sight kit from Brownells
-Front sight parts from Aero
-Gas tube

Picking up a Surefire 952 locally tomorrow

Itā€™s going to be a mutt, but mixture of IDF/GWOT goodness. And itā€™s going to be krylone cause I spray almost all my ARs, currently half are painted and I fight the urge to do the other half

Iā€™m going to stick it on my truck gun more than likely. I originally wanted a GWOT style build with an ARMS SIR, but those have gotten really hard to find.

Old pic, and Iā€™ve since ditched the gooseneck.

My KISS rifle, a 3-legged dog of a clone-ish XM177. Itā€™s not clone-correct; (1/7 cut down to 13.1ā€ Colt pencil barrel, F-marked FSB, Anderson lower), but itā€™s simple, reliable and accurate. It also weighs half of what my BCM SOCOM does when the suppressor is attached.

If I recall, itā€™s an NDS receiver set, Bushmaster 14.5ā€ barrel assembly, LMT receiver extension(my favorite), AIM chrome bcg, Spikes lpk. Nothing special, but I wanted a beater M4A1ish gun to throw in my SxS at the ranch.

Found a show on Amazon Prime called Commandments.  Show is about Hasidic Jews in the IDF going through basic.  Some combat, lots of KISS rifles, and some cute IDF girls.

Worth a watch for some info into the process, don't know about accuracy, but lots of old ARs.

Commandments or Kipat Barzel (Iron Yarmulke)

The grip works fine. But thanks for the offer!

Well, maybe.

Colt grip ordered, thanks.

I am going to have to remove the photo of my clone attempt before someone claims the barrel is bent, or the front sight is too high, or something else needs changed.
