I'm about to purchase an IOR 3-18X42 with the 35mm tube. The scope comes with a set of rings (low, medium or high) I just need to pick which height I want and there lies the problem. I don't know what I need.
The upper is a heavy barrel with a flattop receiver. There will be no iron sights. The tall rings are .75 tall from the bottom of the tube to the top of the receiver. Is this tall enough? If not I'll need a riser. Assuming the riser is .50 what rings do I pick then? The mediums are .50 and lows are .25 HELP ME PLEASE! Thanks |

I'm actually running the lows on my .308 AR and it is a tight cheek weld but works very well for me. Anything higher now feels like a soft cheek weld.
If you order from Scott at LO, he has some used rings that he will include at a good price. That way you can have a couple of choices at a reasonable price. With the IOR rings as far forward as I can, I even get NTCH. On a .223 receiver since it is shorter, I don't think you'd get NTCH unless you had a riser or a continuos top rail. I really think you are going to love the scope. I love mine and find it very versatile and balances well on the rifle. |
