LMT upper brand new 10.5" assembly. When test firing today, I had jam after jam. Changed ammo, same problem. They were fail to eject's. Took apart the bolt, everything looked fine, put it back together, same thing, random sometimes every shot. After inspecting on a stopage I seen that the extractor is hung outward, after pulling the bolt back and releasing again it fixed itself. What the $#$#%$#!!    What can I do to fix this or does it need to go back?

1.  Relax.
2.  Did you try more than one magazine?
3.  Call LMT Monday, and they'll take care of you.......likely on their dime.

The zombies aren't going to attack for at least 3 more weeks, so you'll be gtg.

FWIW, I know it sucks....sorry about your frustrations.

Ejector or Extractor...  And give a little more detail on "hung outwards"...

What kind of ammo?

What kind of mags?

What kind of buffer?

Did you clean it before shooting it?

Did you lube it properly?

Extractor.

Ammo
xm193
Hornady 55gr Training
PMC Bronze

Spikes Lower with Spikes buffer

Can't seem to repeat the extractor hanging outward thing again, but still failing to pull the shot case out of the barrel all the way, but clearly not pulling the shot case all the way out before the new bullet feeds.

Yes, took the bolt carrier all the way down EXCEPT the extractor before shooting and cleaned, when I had problems, I then took the bolt carrier all the way down and pulling the extractor, found nothing that looked wierd.

All new Pmags

I have no stock on the lower, if that matters.

Can you verify that you have both a spring, AND insert beneath the rear of the extractor? If so, what color?

Did the LMT 10.5 upper come with a LMT FA Carrier & Bolt?

If so Is it the enhanced carrier & bolt or standard mil spec?

Gene Swanson of LMT has replied very fast to all my question for the last several years.

I'm aware that it's supposed to.  But its also supposed to extract/eject spent casings, and not "hang outward"...  There's obviously something not meeting the standard in this case - barring out-of-spec parts, misassembled extractor is the simplest/most likely cause of the signs/symptoms he is describing....

Are you positive its a LMT BOLT

Does the bolt have any markings

Reason I asked ??

A few years back Bravocompany / Paul  Sold me a LMT 14.5 upper with a CMT carrier & bolt & CH

Easiest way to narrow down the issue is to swap BCG's with another, known good rifle.  (Assuming you can either drop a no-go gauge in, or have access to another rifle with low-round count BCG to avoid headspacing issues)

If the new upper/different BCG runs fine but the other upper/suspect BCG chokes, you've cut out a range of "suspects" (Gas port diameter, chamber issues, etc) and can focus on one half of the equation...

does it do this if you cycle the rounds manually?
1/29/2011 4:10:28 PM EDT

Even if it was a Stag/CMT you should not be having these problems. Stag/CMT carriers and BCG's have always been 100% for me. LMT used to have a real good reputation and this problem seems to be isolated, but thats no help to you now. Just on an off chance check the gas key for tightness and integrity, your "fail to ejects" could be related to short stroking. LMT was or has been using some MIM gas keys that have been reported here to have cracks in them. All the best and be sure to let us know what the problem was when you get it figured out and fixed....<><....:)

im not expert here but wouldnt an undergassed rifle cause this issue? not enough force to move the bcg back far enough to toss the spent casing out?

The spent case I think never fully leaves the barrel.

blue insert? LMT BCG?

it's been asked but is the bolt marked in any way? should be date coded.

where did you get the upper and BCG from and was is all sold as complete LMT?

Black insert is current that with an Xpower spring should do it..BCM has bolt upgrade kits.

When I stated my LMT came with CMT carrier

It was to say some time s a LMT  upper might not have a LMT carrier/bolt

NOT that CMT is BAD

Everyone of my LMT Bolt(all 5 of them)got black insert. Not sure that makes a difference. There is also a date code. Something in the order of AX..etc. X being the year of manufacture if I record correctly.

exactly why i think its undergassed, cause if you can cycle a round by hand then that should mean that theres not enough pressure to fully move teh BCG back far enough to eject the casing am i thinking straight here?

I could have been seeing things when I thought I saw the extractor hanging outward, maybe I was trying to blame something too quick. I have taken apart the BCG several times and inspected everything. The spring is strong and the extractor seems to be working correctly, holding the rim of a case tightly. The ejector is strong. Nothing seems out of alignment. Can't tell the maker of the BCG.

It would short-cycle the feed first.

doesn't sound like it is.

edit; you should take LMT out of the title of your post. it doesn't sound like it's an LMT issue

I bought this upper from a guy in a local forum.

This was a new replacement upper shipped late Dec. 2010
Item:   L900L08    10.5" FLTP CL THRD BRRL ASSY

The guy told me he sent back a damaged upper and LMT sent him this new replacement, I have box, packing, invoice, and shipping info.

Thats scary to me 3rd???
Did you check check trouble shooting forum LMT 10.5
1/29/2011 5:54:36 PM EDT
[#44]
If I'm reading this invoice correctly the part number L900L08 is an upper assembly with no BCG at LMT wed site. I still don't know if it's the BCG (maybe not LMT)  or a gas issue.
1/29/2011 5:58:03 PM EDT
[#45]
I did look at the washers and the 2 were in line and 1 not, i did stagger all 3.
1/29/2011 6:04:36 PM EDT
[#46]
It's an upper only and didn't come with a BCG. that isn't an LMT BCG which is what I would suspect is causing the issues.

see if you can put your hands on a good BCG and give it a try.
1/29/2011 6:05:51 PM EDT
[#47]
Also check your carrier key staking:

1/29/2011 6:10:06 PM EDT
[#48]
Carrier key stacking?  Looks to be correct, what will it look like if it's not right.
Does LMT have markings on the BCG? Wondering if I got shitted from this guy with a shitty BCG in the LMT upper. It was suppose to have been never fired straight from LMT. It looked the part, no brass markings from being fired and the current BCG looks not worn.

I will have to get a BCG from a friend and see what happens, if the problem goes away with a different BCG then my problem was I got f'd, if it continues then...... we will see.
1/29/2011 6:17:11 PM EDT
[#49]
I'm gonna call LMT anyway and see if a BCG was included with this invoice.
1/29/2011 6:19:26 PM EDT
[#50]
One more question, if this is not a LMT BCG, still why is it givin me a problem?
