Well I had sat on the sidelines for way too long. I couldn't seem to decide between an AR type carbine or the 'new' Ruger Ranch rifle. I liked the simple charging handle on the Ruger and they now have improved accuracy, I was leaning towards a 6.8. But then I decided to go AR just because of the hi cap magazine availability versus the Ruger. Then I had a conversation with my wife the other day and I told her if we wanted an AR type rifle, we'd better get it before (if) O'bama gets in office. (I can't believe that anyone would elect a muslim arab to office but he seems to be gaining momentum) Anyway she said we should and I ran right down to Jay's before she changed her mind. I did have a budget of only $600 available at the time and the odds were against me being able to fit something into that amount of money. I walked in and there were two in that price range. A flat top with a heavy barrel and a carbine. I'm all about lighter being better so I picked up the carbine. It has an A2 type receiver and looks to be a 'post' ban rifle. The 'collaspable' stock is fixed and just looks like a collaspable. That is ok as the length of pull for me is just right. I like a short pull rifle. It has a muzzle brake and that was a feature I had wanted also. It looks to be screwed on rather than pinned as it would on a 'post ban' gun. Anyway, I'm happy. It is a nice, simple gun that will do what I would like to do. I may remove the forward hand grip but I'll have to try it a while first. I will remove the added on bayonet lug. Here's my new baby. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b15/clare44man/arb2.jpg |
