I'm new to ARs.  I built an M4 flat top upper.  My scope is hitting my standard handgaurds.  I really don't want to raise the scope up.  I'm looking for a lower profile handguard.  Any suggestions

Any of the free float tubes will be lower.  They will only be as high as the top of the flat top receiver.  Your rings are too low.  The centerline of the scope should be at the same height as the rear sight on a carry handle.

A peice of shop towel.  I didn't see it until I posted the pix.  This was my first pix I posted on this site.  Took me several hours to figure out how to do it.  Once I noted the string I was too lazy to post another pix.  The string is a conversation piece.

Do you have a standard front sight  or are you running a gas block.
Personally I would say you need taller mounts but if you like it there
you will need to drop some coin for a lower profile handguard or
break out the dremel and start grinding away.

It looks like the lens cap and not the scope itself is resting on the forearm. If that is the case why not remove it and find another lens protection option?

Although you state that you'd rather not raise the scope, the rings your using look pretty low. Almost looks like you're below the front post tower.

It would seem that a proper cheek weld would be fairly difficult to obtain. Taller rings may be the answer to a couple of issues.

or just pick you up a set of the smaller diameter m4 hand guards found on rra and s&w, and others.

I wouldn't hesitate to sand/grind/cut that small area where it is touching and then 'touch up' with some black paint.
Those hand-guards are dirt cheap, no loss from cutting them to suit your needs.

I have a gas block and flip up sights.  My scope rings are just a little low.  But, just a little low and very close and the scope is almost lined up with the flipped upped sights.  I have a Hogue free float hand gaurd on the way.

Another option would be to add QD riser plate , this would allow scope to be removed easy and raise it about 1/4"

Pull the scope flip up cap.  See what your clearance is then.

yep.  just cut it, the stock handguards don't have a high resell value anyway.

Someone here already had the best answer, replace those M4 handguards with a set of older style carbine (thinner) handguards or a set of Magpul MOE handguards. It just depends on what look you are going after. You can find what you want in the EE, used AR upper section....<><....:)

This is an issue....I use tall rings just for the cheek weld. laying across the buttstock is no way to shoot..

Could you provide a link to a QD riser that raises the scope 1/4"?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaking, I believe there is "low profile" standard AR handguards.  What kind/brand of rifle do you have?

VLTOR has a solution in the CASV-S:

Moving the mounts/scope back one notch (T-Slot) on the rail would probably be enough for it to clear. You have enough eye relief to do that?
