Guys, I just received my NDS XM16E1 lower receiver and want to have it engraved by Ident Marking. I have seen photos of their work from this site. My question is those that had theirs done: Did you send them a photo of how you wanted the lower done? How did you send the lower to them so they knew excactly how you wanted it to look?  I want this lower to look as close as I can to the one my father carried in Vietnam. Thanks guys.

I simply wrote on a little sticky note what I wanted and put it in the same box as my lower.  Came back just as I expected.  I suspect these guys do a lot of this type of work, and are familiar with most requests.

I gave them more detail than they needed.

They know where to put "auto" and the false sear pin.

They know what you mean by Colt logo.  Just tell them what you want specific to the model you are making.

This is what i told them for my 601:

3.   On the Left Mag well above the MOD NDS - 601 engrave the Colt pony circle and to the right the word “Colt”.  Under the circle engrave the word “Armalite” with the leg of the “A” underlining the rest of the word.  Under that put the words “patents pending”

I also included a picture.

I sent a photo of a factory lower that I wanted done. If this is not possible, sending a note along ussually gets the job done. I have been pleased with the work they did on an M16 A1 clone I just built. My 607 lower is arriving tommorow

I emailed a photo of an original XM16E1 receiver and sent a description with my lower.
Ident are great people to work with and do excellent work.

My first lower I sent was for my IDF build.
I sent detailed instructions and printed pictures of what I wanted, and also pictures on DVD.
I also included .JPGs of the Star of David outline.

My second lower was my 608 SBR.
I just told them what I wanted in a letter.

I'm pleased with both results.

They did a great Job.  Where did you have it refinished after or did Ident do that too?

Tex, this must be a older engrave. I just received one and they did not put the R above the circle with pony inside. I think it has to be a copy wright issue.

It was engraved August of 2009.

The IDF was already anodized black.
After Ident Marking engraved it they filled it and it matches just fine.

The 608 SBR was already anodized XM Grey.
Again after engraving Ident Marking filled and it matches fine.

Feel free to have anodized lowers engraved by Ident Marking.

Yup me too - and I had a big conversation with Gordon about this - eventually I decided he wasn't going to do it so I gave up and just let him do the engraving without the circle-R. I really wish I could have had the circle-R - it bugs me that I don't have it, so I'm going to look into finding/making a steel stamp that I can use to mark it myself.
