| Brand New Bushmaster Varminter .223! The rifle is accurate BUT, I can not fire off a consistent number of rnds. without a stoppage. 2,3 maybe 4 or 5 nds. then nothing! No click, nothing, not even w/ a full mag. Bolt is fwd w/ a rnd chambered but it didn't fire. Tried different combnations of factory 5 rnd mag and magpuls loaded w/ Am. Eagle FMJ's and Hornaday V-Max's, both .55 gr. Same result! A friend who's a cert. Colt armorer says it seems like what he calls a "DeadTrigger", says it's more than likely a lower firing mechanism problem and not gas related because it is cycling. The rnds. that I eject, where I got nothing, had slight dents in primers. He doesn't really want to touch it because it's still under Bushmaster warranty! I'm at a dilema because it's the height of my coyote time and can't afford to let Bushmaster have it back for who knows how long! Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas? Please Help! Gunny! |

Sounds like something's either assembled wrong or out of spec in your FCG as your armorer friend says.
His "dead trigger" description may mean that the trigger is not resetting. Wouldn't hurt to just verify that all the FCG springs are correct. Then do the Trigger Function Test with the weapon unloaded. The light primer dent could be from the BCG slamming home. Make sure there is no debris like a spit primer floating around in there. Intermittent troubles could be caused by something like this. Take a piece of dowel or chopstick to drive out the takedown pin if you're worried about leaving "tracks". |

Certainly sounds like you are not getting a trigger reset. Next time it mis fires, break open the upper and lower receiver and see if the hammer is forward or back. If it is forward, you are getting a hammer follow. If it is back, no trigger re-set. Any who, either one can be caused by an improperly installed or too much "tuned" trigger. I just looked it up and saw it has a match trigger. Call Bushmaster and give them the lowdown on what is going on. They might have a over the phone fix for you. |

Forgot to mention, while I was out shooting today, trying to trouble shoot! On (3) three different occasions, it fired a 2 rnd burst with one trigger pull! Could this be a bad disconnector you suggested Sinlessorrow, thus causing all this! Yep. Do the trigger function check (the one that Bushie should have done !) It's here on arfcom in the How-to-Build section.....I'm too lazy right now to link you up. |
