Hey, I am changing one of my AR's to a floater handguard and it utilizes a gas block.  How do I make sure I get the gas-port correctly lined up with the hole on the gas-block?

cheers, LT

What brand FF are you getting. Some of them will just screw off and you can line it up that way.

Huh?

Anyways, if the gas block itilizes set screws, then you can put it on with the gas tube already installed in the gas block.  When you slip the gas tube onto the barrel, you can use the gas tube and eyeball it to make sure it is running parrallell with the barrel and is straight.  If the tube is straight, then the gas block should be lined up with the gas hole in the barrel.  you really can't go wrong, as long as the tube isn't bent.

ETA: This will probably be moved to Build it yourself Forum.

The hole in the gas block is  usually way bigger than the barrel port and is pretty hard to miss.  However, if you're not using the original handguard end cap, some blocks require that you leave a 1/32" space between the block and the step on the barrel.  Before you install the blcook on the barrel, you can actually put the block aside the barrel and check where the holes align.

I didn't think about the details.  It's a YHM gas block, 2 piece with screws, and I won't be using the handguard plate.
