Folks, for those of us who live on the edge, where can I find information on installing a barrel extension onto a barrel?  Is this something that is only done on barrels BEFORE the gas hole is drilled?  What is the process of getting everything lined up if your barrel is already drilled?

Thanks!

If your gas port is already drilled, don't even go there.  It's a really difficult process to install a new extension and get everything to line up.  If you have a chrome plated chamber and or bore, it's basically impossible.  Go buy a new barrel assy instead.

I can explain how to do it, but it's really not worth the required time and expense.

the barrel extension is installed before the gas hole is drilled, and the barrel is held in a barrel vice, and the extension is torqued on with a wrench, and a special bit that looks similar to the bolt, it has ears that engage the lugs in the extension

If the barrel is already drilled but doesn't have a barrel extension installed (someone sold these a couple of years ago--probably should be shot for doing it), unless you have access to a machine shop and know how to use a lathe, my advice is to keep the barrel for a pry bar and start over. This is a good way to blow some time and money.

But that's just my opinion.
