Anyone have experience with Insight's products? The X2L seems to be ideal for an AR pistol - any comments or other suggestions regarding choice of aiming devices? www.insightlights.com/products/showProduct.asp?id=19 |

I have the XML that came with my Springfield XD Subcompact. It looks and fits nice, but at 3 volts it is a bit weak. My mini maglight at the same 3 volts is brighter than the XML. The X2 looks exactly the same except for the added laser....and it is the same 3 volts as the XML. My guess, is it also has the same weak light. Look for something with at least 6 volts for the light. This cheaper Surefire G2 I have is so much brighter than the XML! I have the M6X on one of my AR carbines, and it works well and is very bright. However, after sliding it on and off the pic rails a few times, the metal of the rails shaved away the plastic of the housing enough that it's now loose. I got mine from Island Tactical with the pressure switch & rifle backplate for under $400, IIRC. If you're mainly interested in the laser, you might be better off getting a small, sturdy laser unit with a pressure switch. It would be considerably smaller than an Insight unit, and wouldn't add nearly as much bulk to the pistol. |
